Castle of St. George

The Castle of St. George (Peratata), known as "Castle" is located in the southwest of Argostoli, the village Peratata. The first mention of the castle become around 1262 and has been maintained in this area since the 16th century. During the Venetian occupation, the castle was the capital of the island with a population of 15,000 living in the interior as well as surrounding villages.
